Zach was born in Morgantown, West Virginia and lived there until he finished a Bachelors of Wild-land Recreation and Parks Management form West Virginia University’s school of Forestry. During his time at WVU Zach spent every summer following a passion for hard work and building by working on professional trail maintenance crews in the northern New England. In 1999 he moved to southern Vermont where he helped start a new sustainable forestry and logging company. After creating logs from trees for two years Zach wanted to learn more about creating houses from logs so he put down the chainsaw and picked up a hammer. His undeniable roots to the central Appalachian region brought him to Charlottesville, Virginia in 2001 and he went to work for a small family owned contracting firm. Zach has been enthusiastically doing residential construction since then and is now partner / cofounder of Alloy Workshop.
